If you are then it is possible you are stuck in the fright- or- flight response, also known as the acute stress response. 

The body can’t fully heal from a place of flight or fright [sympathetic dominance] due to the stress hormones circulating around our blood stream. This is our survival mechanism.

This physiological reaction occurs when we are in the presence of something mentally or physically challenging that can affect our survival. 

Stress is talked about so often on how it affects our mood, energy levels, sleep, digestion and a myriad of other symptoms that affect our daily lives…However it is not readily spoken about in terms of limiting our abilities to heal from dis-ease.

Our survival mechanism is not designed to heal the body, digest food, or allow us to fully relax. This response triggers a release of stress hormones that prepares the body to fight or flee. 

You can stay in fright-or-flight for 20 to 60 minutes after the threat is gone, which is how long it takes for the parasympathetic nervous system [our calming nervous system] to return to pre-arousal levels.

What happens when the parasympathetic nervous isn’t reset??

Basically we stay in stress mode and over time this can lead to  issues of chronic fatigue, depression, gastrointestinal issues, headaches, heart attach, stroke, high blood pressure, reproductive & sexual dysfunction, poor immune function and the inability to heal from what ails us.

How to calm a Fright-or-Flight Response.

We need our body to be bought back into parasympathetic balance, also known as “Resting & Digesting” to allow the healing of the body to take place.

There are many things you can do to support this reset such as relaxation exercises, making sleep a priority, deep breathing techniques, meditation, mindfulness, regular exercise, and my favourite  Harmonic Egg sessions.
